Can a Nation Divided Against Itself Stand
August 30, 2021We Can Have Shared Values Amid our Differences
September 24, 2021Perhaps one of the greatest costs of politicizing the Covid vaccine is the growing infections among children, especially children who are underage and ineligible to be vaccinated.
What has happened to so many people’s ability to exercise common sense? There is enough blame for exercising poor judgement to go around. From those in trusted leadership positions, from elected officials to school administrators and teachers to parents.
It begs the question why is there so much resistance around taking the Covid vaccine, generally, among those who are eligible to be vaccinated. Despite increased infections and deaths among the unvaccinated, it seems that the costs of politicizing the Covid vaccine do not matter.
But when it comes to continuing to put innocent children more and more at risk as they return to school, there is really no excuse. Since the beginning of this school year, we see increasingly more school putting a number of children in quarantine or closing schools temporarily because of the increase in positive tests or infections. These costs of politicizing the Covid vaccine are so unnecessary.
Was this kind of resistance seen when other vaccinations of children were required for them to enter schools? School districts all across America require proof of children being immunized against the most communicable childhood diseases: diphtheria, tetanus pertussis, polio measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox.
As parents, grandparents, teachers, any caring adult willing to subject young dependent children to situations where they may contract any of those diseases, and have life-threatening or long-term effects? Why is it okay to expose them to the life-threatening and life-altering effects of Covid?
Under-aged children becoming infected is one of the greatest costs of politicizing the Covid vaccine.
But there are other costs. Because hospitals, doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other health care providers are overwhelmed with the unvaccinated becoming ill with Covid, they are unable to provide needed care for patients suffering from other conditions like cancer and heart disease.
Many of these providers are quitting because they can no longer tolerate the senseless suffering and unnecessary deaths. Overwhelmed hospitals and burned out health care providers are among the high costs of politicizing of the Covid vaccine.
How much more and how much longer will politics take precedence over science when it comes to doing what is in the best interest of individual and our collective health?

They are also quitting because they do not want to take the vaccine. These are the same people that were on the front lines and we embraced as heroes. Now because they would rather trust their own immune system than get a series of shots…they are faced with an either/or ultimatum. Sad.?
It would seem to me that the politization of covid vaccination has a devastating impact upon children, there is an even greater cost. Supplanting medical science with political sophistry and public displays of irrational rantings is the social equivalent of shooting the messenger. Resources that would otherwise be used to better our lives will be squandered trying to reason with unreasonable people. And worse yet will be the lingering lack of trust and respect in our public institutions set up to provide us with timely research to save us from the next pandemic.
