May 30, 2026April has been designated as the National Month of Hope — remembering the power of hope — to celebrate the power of believing that no matter how dire, how complex, or how difficult situations are or may become, things will work out even when it seems otherwise.
What do you hope for?
Originally established in 1989 by the American Cancer Society to raise awareness and encourage support for those suffering from cancer, the month has grown to celebrate the power of hope and resilience in many aspects of our lives and society.
Many initiatives have adopted April as the month to bring more attention to their causes and works. For example: Mothers in Crisis that addresses the detrimental effects of drug addiction on families; and others like Child Abuse Prevention, Minority Health, Stress Awareness, Move More. All of these are emblematic of remembering the power of hope.
Many days during the month of April have been designated as a holiday or for special observances and commemorations. Some more defining and universal than others, like Earth Day.
Here is a sample of the many causes and interests that have selected a day in April for a time of observance, to create awareness, to spur action, and to keep hope alive. Each day of the month is filled with many options. All showing the importance of remembering the power of hope.

What are your hopes?
No doubt, each of us could make a list of things we hope for in our personal and professional lives. It can be further compounded when we consider all the things we could hope for when it comes to family members, loved ones, colleagues and friends.
And, it doesn’t stop there.
When we look around in our communities, cities, nations, other countries, our planet, there are so many areas and conditions that could use our collective hope — a kind of hope that will spur us into working to make the things better that we can, things that are directly in our sphere of influence.
April is the National Month of Hope. Remembering the power of hope.
Let us pause and embrace the power of hope during the month of April. But let us be filled with enough to help us confront, move into action and overcome what is before us each day for the rest of the year.
Let hope spring eternal within each of us.
