Women and Blacks Form a Powerful Coalition
October 17, 2025We Need to Recharge this Thanksgiving
With the never-ending negative dialogue, actions, and other forces that seem to dominate the political, economic, and social environment, we need to recharge this Thanksgiving as we gather with family and friends.
It seems we cannot go from one news cycle to the next without being bombarded with negative news that involves many of our leaders at the national and local levels. With excessive doses of vitriol, meanness, accusations, discord, and divisiveness being doled out as the new normal, it is exacting a toll on our collective spirit.
As we find it increasingly difficult to find hope and light, it seems we need to recharge this Thanksgiving more than ever. We need to pause, think about and discuss with family and friends how we can remain hopeful about the future of our country and the quality of our lives as we navigate the current storms.
At a time when we need leaders that will help us find bridges, that will help us resolve those issues that divide us and create a path forward, many of those leaders are relishing in and perpetuating the destructive discord.

It is little wonder that the public is wondering when it will end. It is little wonder that the public may be finding it difficult to determine what to believe, how to sort facts and truths from the lies, distortions, misinformation and disinformation that seem to rule the day.
Many of us are bound to be feeling drained, overwhelmed, discouraged, and exhausted by it all. So, taking time and recognizing that we need to recharge this Thanksgiving holiday as we prepare meals and gather for whatever activities or quietness that fuels our bodies and souls could provide some needed relief, some needed reprieve.
We can take time to remember better more hopeful times. We can find comfort in knowing that we have overcome many challenges, politically, professionally and personally in the past. We can find strength and resolve in knowing that we will get through these challenging times, too.
We can revisit our favorite family games and memories, or our favorite books, readings, music, television programming, to remind us of other things that are important to our mental, emotional and physical well-being.
We need to recharge this Thanksgiving and remember that we have the will, the ability and resolve to continue to work for the good of our common humanity.
Happy recharging this Thanksgiving!
