The removal of Confederate monuments will not get rid of the great racial divide that is on display all across America. Bigotry, racism, prejudices, disenfranchisement of groups of people based strictly on skin color and economic station in life will still be an ugly part of America.
The removal of Confederate monuments will not stop how blacks are perceived and treated in the workplace all over America.
The removal of Confederate monuments will not stop how blacks are treated by police and the criminal justice system; when blacks are stopped more often than whites with or without a legitimate reason; when once they are in the justice system, they receive longer and harsher sentences and judgments than whites for the same or lesser offenses. This is commonplace in towns and cities all across America.

The removal of Confederate monuments will not stop the perpetuation of the education achievement gap where black children are still locked in poor inferior schools; where black children who are in racially integrated schools are disciplined and expelled at much higher rates than white children for the same behavior and infractions.

The removal of Confederate monuments will not rid this country of the entrenched racism, economic and educational disparities that are the real problems. The Confederate Flag, monuments of generals that fought to maintain slavery and the southern way of life, committing acts of treason in the process, are just symptomatic of the racial problem that remains in America. Removing those symbols will only be a surface fix.
The removal of Confederate monuments will not erase the ugly history of America, and more importantly, the bane of evil that still remains as seen in the resurgence and boldness of white supremacy and blatant expressions of racial hatred.
Only facing this scourge, confronting it, and actively taking the necessary steps to make things better will have lasting meaning.
Sadly, even then, there will be those who will stay stuck in the false sense of racial superiority that is merely a relic of America’s past.
Yes, Confederate flags and monuments are historical relics that too many are trying to preserve not because of their place in America’s history, but in an attempt to on determine America’s future.

It is true there is a lot that needs to be done apart from removing those monuments. However, racism is not something that you can get rid off at once. It will take time and every little action including removing the monuments shows good will and it will go a long way.
What is so wrong of having a different colred skin? There’s nothing much to it aside from the amount of melanin present. And what’s so great being white? White supremacy destroys confidence and ultimately leads to discrimination.
I think you are right. Positive actions to right the wrongs of our history is what is needed, not a focus on monuments although they have to be removed because our children should not grow up accepting the reality of racism and bigotry.

Well stated, it is glaring that taking away monuments which are mere relics people are trying to preserve wouldn’t mean any thing. There are other pressing needs facing America that needs to be addressed urgently.
Agree. Education gap or racism will not resolved by taking out confederation monuments. While yes, it may add or help it, it’s not the total solution. It’s still the mindset that we set, and the ideas that we cultivate to our people, especially the young ones, which would matter.
What has removing confederate monuments got to do with good welfare system for everyone. The superiority spirit of the Americas is so in the past and as such everyone should move past that and stand for favorable life for everyone
I agree with you on this one. This is just a band-aid solution, but I think it is a promising move. However, it should not stop here. The change must be institutional in order to exact substantial changes.
Removing Confederate monuments doesn’t make much sense in eradicating any prejudices against humanity be it black or Hispanics. America should rise and tackled all discriminations and bridge the well-being gap between the blacks and the whites in all ramifications.
It is a true fact that eradication of the Confederate monuments will not eliminate American history. It is an informative article.
At the end of the day it is not just the exterior but what is on the inside that must shift. Then again that might be a tall order to ask for. I mean its a thing that people tends to fear things that are new to them. This is the same at this case.
