If each of us does what is thoughtful and responsible, we can control the spread of Covid. For the sake of our children. If we continue to put our own selfish interest before what are good health practices, we will continue to pay a heavy price in every aspect of our lives.
The latest variant, Omicron, is posing a serious threat to the most vulnerable among us: our children.
When is enough, enough? Whether you believe in taking the Covid vaccine, wearing a mask, or social distancing, do you care about what is happening to member of your family, your neighbor, your community, your city, your nation?
Most importantly, do you care about all the children who are being infected by the Omicron variant? We can control the spread of Covid, and we should for those most vulnerable among us: children many of whom are under 5 years old and are not eligible to get a vaccine.
Other children who are eligible are not getting the vaccine for one reason or another. Many of us are not doing what we can to control the spread of Covid even among our children.
Parents, teachers, and school administrators are struggling to determine what is in the best interest of their children when it comes to educating them amid the aggressive spread of the virus. Because of politics and some misplaced notion of infringement on individual rights, there seems to be no clear path forward.
We Can Control the Spread of Covid

This is so unnecessary and very harmful for our children whose wellbeing and welfare should be of highest priority. But because many of us refuse to do what we can to control the spread of Covid, our children are suffering in more ways than one. Why? Because of all the misinformation and lies around taking vaccines, masking, and social distancing.
School districts all across America require proof of children being immunized against the most communicable childhood diseases: diphtheria, tetanus pertussis, polio measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox. Most responsible parents start the immunization process within the first few months of a child’s life.
We can control the spread of Covid if we practice preventive measures like wearing a mask, social distancing, and getting the vaccine.
Children whose parents have chosen not to vaccinate them, exercising their individual parental rights, are not and should not be allowed to put other children at risk. Why should anyone believe or be allowed to spread a health-threatening, life-altering, and deadly virus simply because it is their right not to take a vaccine or wear a mask?
While each of us has the right to make that decision as we function in our own private space, we do not have the right to practice that behavior in a public place, putting others in harm’s way.
We are not only responsible for ourselves, but we are also responsible for others. We are not islands. We are in this together, and together we can control the spread of Covid to make life better for us all in the coming months.
Especially for our children.
