They can pass measures to get the pandemic under control and fix the economy, but Biden and Harris cannot fix our heads and hearts. There are many challenges this country faces. We have a pandemic infecting and killing our loved one, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. There are high unemployment rates. There is a shortage of food and shortage of money to pay rent and mortgages for too many Americans. There is rampant racism, mistrust, intolerance, anger, and bitterness.
The deaths we are experiencing from the pandemic are the highest of any place in the world. More people have died because of the pandemic that died during World War II. The loss of jobs, the fragility of the economy and the overall well-being of this nation rivals that of the great depression. But, perhaps, the greatest malady of all is the deep and hateful divisions that exist in the minds and feelings among our citizens. Biden and Harris cannot fix our heads and hearts.
The Biden-Harris administration can enact many executive measures to get the vast number of Americans vaccinated within the next few months. They can work with Congress to pass a much needed stimulus package to provide unemployment benefits, prevent evictions, and create jobs to get the economy going. They can improve America’s position on the world stage and begin to reposition America as a great country. But Biden and Harris cannot fix our heads and hearts.

At a time when we should be coming together to fight all these crises we face, too many of us are holding on to one-sided positions and refusing to hear about or see the other side. Too many of us are holding on to lies, misinformation, unfounded conspiracies even when facts and truths stare us in the face. Can anyone at this point still believe the Corona Virus is a hoax?
There are those of us who would like to believe that the country is equally split or equally divided in one camp or the other. Whether you chose to believe, identify with, and promote liberal, conservative, progressive, or libertarian views, there should be some beliefs and qualities we all hold in common. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent, or do not identify with either, we all should value honesty, decency, truth, and respect as we interact with each other. That is a head and heart condition. Biden and Harris cannot fix our heads and hearts. Only we can.
Within our heads and hearts, we must embrace and recommit to these values as we work together to overcome some of the greatest crises we face in our time. The Biden-Harris administration along with Congress can do only so much. We as Americans have to do our part, and it begins with examining our beliefs, attitudes in the search of truth, and a better future. Biden and Harris cannot fix our heads and hearts.
Only we own and control our heads and hearts. Therein lies any lasting solutions for this country.
